Doctoral studies constitute the third cycle of academic studies offered by Babeş-Bolyai University, with the purpose of expanding knowledge through original scientific research. Doctoral studies are organized as stipulated by the Government Decision No. 681/2011 regarding the approval of the Code of doctoral studies.
In most cases, they take up to three years. They include two components, carried out under the guidance of a doctoral supervisor from Babeş-Bolyai University: a programme based on advanced academic studies and an individual programme of scientific research or artistic creation. Upon completion of the doctoral studies, the doctoral student must publicly defend a thesis, named doctoral thesis. The doctoral thesis must prove the advanced scientific knowledge of the approached theme, and must comprise components of originality regarding the development or the solving of the theme, as well as methods for its scientific validation.
